Thank You Zions Bank's Smart Women Smart Money Grant! Yesterday at four PM I received a call from Zions Bank telling me that Harmony Garden has been awarded $3,000 for our Tuff shed, lock for shed, and tools for the shed! I was in shock, but when I got of the phone I was hit with what had happened, Thank you Zions for your generosity!

Digging Pathway Pictures
Thank you Do Something!!!
Thank you Do Something's Summer Jobless Grants for you generous donation of $500 which will pay for the mulch in the path ways to block weeds from growing. But, we need to have 25 youth volunteers to help us receive the grant money. On Saturday the 13th and Saturday the 20th we will be helping finish pathways and set a fence and install drips. The address is 3700 South Main St in the south-west corner of Harmony Park behind the baseball field.
Thanks Again Do Something!

What had been done for the garden?
First, the Salt Lake County (SLC), who is funding $35,000, sprayed the grass with lots of Round-up. The Round-up killed all the grass in the specified area and the Bobcats and volunteers moved in! Bobcats scooped the grass and the volunteers cut the grass.
Second, SLC learned they were looking at a $45,000 project instead of a $35,000 project! I received an $800 Corporation of National and Community Service, CNCS, Take Action Grant for the Handicap entrance so that the county could be in line with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). Of course this was not the $10,000 extra so I continued to look for funding.
Third, I found the Smart Women Smart Money grant which is funded through Zions Bank. This grant is for $3,000 which would cover the expense of the Tuff Shed, gardening tools, and lock.
Fourth, I found the Do Something Summer Jobless Grant for $2,000. I have known about the Seed Grants which are $500 each, but never heard of a Summer Jobless Grant.
In the future I'm looking at writing a Home Depot Foundation grants where the employees come and help you with your project.

Harmony Community Garden
What's the Harmony Community Garden? The Harmony Community Garden is nestled in South Salt Lake which is a food desert as defined by the Economic Research Service of the USDA 2009 research. A food desert is a low-income census tract where a substantial number of residents have low access to a supermarket or large grocery store.
